The purpose of this Microsoft Word Tips & Microsoft Word Help page is to show you how to control the Word2007 User Interface (UI) Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) display.  Unfamiliarity with these methods is often the cause of frustration with users new to Word2007.  All of a sudden they notice that their Ribbon isn't fully displayed and have no idea how to get it back.

The default (out of the box) installation shows the Ribbon maximized with the tab controls visible and the QAT positioned above the Ribbon as shown in the example below.

The Ribbon can also be displayed minimized.  When minimized only the Ribbon Tab labels are shown until the user selects a tab.  When a tab is selected the full Ribbon is displayed until the user executes a ribbon command or removes the focus from the Ribbon.

The QAT can also be displayed below the full or minimized Ribbon.  Some would argue, with good reason, that access is quicker with the QAT in this configuration.

A right mouse click on the QAT or Ribbon tab displays the user interface to control the Ribbon and QAT display.

:old: Bonus Tip: The Ribbon display can also be toggled by double-clicking any Ribbon tab or by pressing CTRL+F1.
